18 to 25+ Online Education Programmes (EP)
The 18–25+ Online Education Programmes (Online EPs) will provide flexible and accessible learning for adults who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or who may have had one previously.

The programmes will complement and extend learning taking place at school, college or specialist provision, while also providing continued educational opportunities for individuals who may have finished their formal education or have reached the end of their EHCP but would still benefit from opportunities to develop their skills, continue learning and remain connected with others.

The programmes will run Monday to Thursday during the late afternoon and evening, allowing individuals to participate alongside school, college, specialist provision, employment, training or other daytime commitments.

Two Online EPs will be available:
Entry Level Functional Skills Group
Level 1 / Level 2 Functional Skills Group

Each programme will have a maximum of 12 places and will focus on Functional Skills English and Maths, with teaching matched to each individual’s current level, learning needs and appropriate next steps. Fully flexible participation will allow individuals to access sessions around their existing commitments, while the small-group format will provide opportunities for personalised teaching and support.
English and Maths: Informed by the Science of Learning
The programmes will be underpinned by Functional Skills English and Maths and aim to align with the curriculum and current learning of an individual’s school, college or specialist setting, providing opportunities to reinforce, consolidate and extend learning taking place elsewhere. Learning will cover key Functional Skills areas, including reading, writing, speaking and listening, number, measure, shape, data and problem solving.

The programmes will offer a more personalised level of support than may be possible within a larger school or college setting, with teaching adapted to each individual’s starting points, learning profile and pace of progress. Additional time can be given to revisit areas of difficulty, break learning into smaller steps, provide targeted practice and extend areas of strength, allowing teaching to respond more closely to the individual rather than the pace of a wider class or curriculum.

The programmes will incorporate the principles of effective learning, including retrieval practice, spaced practice, repeated exposure, overlearning and regular opportunities to revisit and apply previously taught skills. This approach can help strengthen retention, build fluency and confidence, and reduce the risk of cognitive overload associated with longer, more intensive sessions.

A Balance of Live Teaching and Personalised Learning
Each programme will combine live online group teaching with personalised learning opportunities, allowing individuals to benefit from direct instruction while also working at a level and pace appropriate to them.

Live sessions will include teaching, modelling, guided practice and opportunities for participation, with scaffolding, repetition and visual support used where appropriate. Individuals will also have opportunities to work independently while remaining connected to the group and tutor, allowing them to ask questions, seek help, receive individual support and, where appropriate, learn collaboratively with others.

Resources and consolidation activities will remain available between sessions, giving individuals opportunities to revisit previous learning, practise key skills and complete additional work where appropriate. Participation and completed work can be reviewed to help inform future teaching, identify areas requiring further support and adapt learning over time.

Wider Benefits of the Programmes
Alongside English and Maths, the programmes will provide regular opportunities for individuals to communicate, participate and learn alongside others within a consistent online group.

For those attending different colleges, specialist settings or other provision, the programmes can provide an additional opportunity to keep in touch with peers, maintain existing friendships and develop new social connections. Regular group sessions can also support confidence in communicating with others, contributing to discussions, asking for help and working collaboratively.

The programmes will also encourage the development of wider skills including independence, organisation, problem solving, decision making and self-advocacy. These skills will be developed naturally through participation in learning activities and through repeated opportunities to work both independently and as part of a group.

For individuals who have finished formal education or reached the end of their EHCP, the programmes can provide an important sense of continuity, routine and connection, alongside ongoing opportunities to continue learning and developing skills.

Continued Education and Support
The Online EPs will provide more than additional lessons. They will offer consistent programmes of continued education, combining regular live teaching, personalised learning, repeated practice and opportunities to learn alongside others within a calm and supportive online environment.

Further information, including session times, programme structure, group placement and fees, will be available soon.
